Tell An Author You Care Day!! slayground says...

I was also tagged for 8 things by the wickedly lovely melissawrites last night. I wrote a confessional chockful of fun things, but then deleted it! What a wimp. Well, actually I just want to keep SOME mystic surrounding me. Hee. So, I'm doing a combo: 8 things/8 authors to thank. Here goes. (From order of my reading life---enjoy the very eclectic literary pattern!)

1) I'd like to thank Laura Ingalls Wilder for writing the Little House books, and I'd like to thank my mom for reading them to me when I was a little girl.
2) I'd like to thank Judy Blume for teaching me about: bras, God, periods, masturbation, sex, love, loss, friendship, racism, bullies, and life in general. (Confession: seeing Judy Blume speak in the village in NY was a life highlight. My fellow Newschooler bud and I were holding hands and shaking. Seriously.)
3) I'd like to thank Francine Pascal for writing a million Sweet Valley Highs which I devoured in 6th grade. Never had I paid that much attention to eye/hair/clothes color. I loved those books.
4) I'd like to thank VC Andrews for opening my eyes to oh-so-many-more-things. I loved hiding your books in my room and getting so freaked out in a good way while reading them. (junior high)
5) I'd like to thank Danielle Steele for writing like Francine Pascal for the older crowd. (high school)
6) I'd like to thank my high school English teacher for teaching me about Percy Shelley, Lord Byron and the Romantics. Eyes begin to open. She was also in love with Jack London and took us to the state park. Lovely. And my Grammy for introducing me to Willa Cather.
7) I'd like to thank William Shakespeare. I've seen and read most of your plays and directed several of them. You the man. On that note, I'd like to also thank numerous other playwrights and screenwriters and poets.
8) I'd like to thank the amazing authors: Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, Amy Tan, Alice Walker, Richard Wright--the list goes on and on and on, for opening my eyes to a whole new world of literature and UC Santa Cruz professors for introducing them to me. To this day, I've still never read a more powerful book than Morrison's, BELOVED.
9) I'd like to thank Sara Dessen for publishing her first book right out of college and for giving me great feedback on my WIP at New School. It's so great to have some one WAY WAY (EONS, LIGHT YEARS) ahead of you, to give you incentive to try and catch up.
10) I'd like to thank (in order of advice) these fantastic YA authors who have recently lended me fabulous advice along my own bumpy road toward publishing: Nancy Farmer, John Green, Coe Booth (and the other 'stockings), Rachel Cohn, Laura Ruby, Carrie Jones, and Lisa Schroeder and all you other authors on LJ who inspire me daily with your stories. My advice to all those trying to break into this biz: If you don't know something, just ask. More often then not, those in the spotlight like sharing the wildly cool angst-filled tales of how they got there.

If you're reading this CONSIDER YOURSELF TAGGED!!!! Let the literary love confessions begin! (and yes, i realize i wrote 10 again!)

Don't be jealous, I'm just nervy: "Dear John Green:"
Well, I actually met Sara and John. I haven't met Coe, but she's been super nice and supportive since I introduced myself--you know those Longstocking gals all went to New School after me--and all published RIGHT after. I'm like a super slo mo banana slug compared to them. And you, darling, have been wonderful. =9
Did you see the sweet post from Mr. Andrew today?? I told him to read your journal. Yes, I'm so bad.
